Chistianshavn was from the start a rectilinear street network following the Dutch model. The city is divided into an upper town (to the south) and a lower town (to the north).
That is why the streets along Christianshavn’s Canal got their distinctive names Overgaden Above the Water and Overgaden Neden Vandet.
